Joseph Durocher

Photographer of Time Inscribed

Through photography, I explore the living traces of urban heritage. Established in Montreal for nearly fifty years, I walk its streets, its balconies, its sculpted cornices — signs of a past still seeking to remain visible.

My images reveal places layered with history, in Montreal and soon elsewhere, in Europe or on other continents. Each façade, each shadow, becomes for me a fragment of memory: an invitation to slow down, to look, and to remember.

Artistic approach

I photograph architecture as one gathers a testimony: with attention, respect, and an awareness of time. My practice is rooted in a sense of cultural responsibility — to capture what is disappearing, to give value to what endures, and to honour the memory of places.

Between shadow and light, between heritage and forgetting, my images speak of the human presence through the spaces it has shaped.

To begin his artistic journey, Joseph Durocher chose to explore Montreal’s architectural heritage. For the past twelve years, he has devoted his eye to documenting its emblematic neighbourhoods, rich in history and identity.
